Who are we and why are we here?
Simply stated, we are here to support the academic and research mission of the University of Utah.
Through legislative language as well as policies adopted by the University’s Board of Trustees, trust has been placed in Plant Operations to provide the best level of support possible to most facilities on campus.
We provide primary support on all facilities operated through funding provided by the State of Utah. We stand ready to help facilities support personnel in facilities which generate their own sources of revenue, such as University Student Apartments, Residential Living at Heritage Commons, University Hospital, the Bookstore, the A. Ray Olpin Student Union, etc.
This awesome responsibility includes the challenges of providing reliable utility services to the entire campus community. This requires us to operate and maintaining complex distribution systems, such as those associated with high voltage electric distribution, high temperature hot water, potable water, sewer, gas, steam, etc.
The best way to achieve these goals is to surround ourselves with the most qualified, highly motivated, and unselfishly dedicated specialists available in the market place. We recognize that, in an environment such as our University, diversity is important, even beneficial, to our ability to “get the right job done the first time.” We recognize that, in many case, our campus customers do not truly “have a choice” about using our services. We therefore commit to working even harder to make our customers satisfied with our services.
Much of our daily effort focuses on maintaining and operating facilities, landscape maintenance (including snow removal), utilities and associated distribution systems. In addition, we operate an excellent fleet rental and lease program out of our Motor Pool.
