Facilities Planning
The administration and operation of all support services should efficiently support the teaching, research and service components of an institution’s mission. The Facilities Planning Department Mission Statement reflects the underlying philosophy that the Department’s primary role is one of service to the academic community.
“We are attentive monitors of the University’s future and proponents for continuity and efficiency in campus development; we provide timely, responsible service to campus departments, in identifying, coordinating, and documenting their facilities needs, and transmitting these needs in a competent, effective manner to administrative and financial decision-makers; we advocate facilities plans which make the most effective use of human objectives; and we stress technical accuracy, as well as participation and open discussion among academics, administration, and the local community.”
Physical facilities, including buildings, materials, equipment, and campus resources are to be designed and maintained to serve the needs of the institution in relation to its stated mission and purposes. The Department’s role is to provide physical planning assistance to the University as a whole. The primary activities of the Facilities Planning Department can be summarized as:
- Develop collegial rapport and functional working relationships with both campus
and off campus communities. - Implement and continually reevaluate long range development and
planning needs of the University. - Develop strategies and priorities for renovation and development of campus facilities.
- Coordinate and assist planning efforts of various campus departments.
- Provide liaison with campus finding and administrative committees.
- Oversee development of the University’s Capital Development Plan.
- Provide professional planning advice and judgment.
- Prepare reports and presentation materials.
- Act as a liaison between the Facilities Management organization and both
the campus and off-campus communities.
